Aim MXS Dash Data Logger for Motorsport
A wide range of data sources
Aim MXS is the new dash logger designed to acquire and display data coming from your engine ECU, the internal accelerometer, gyro, and from the GPS Module included in the kit. Analog/digital inputs and predefined math channels.
Performance and data acquired can also be incremented adding up to eight expansion modules. The only difference between the two is the MXS is a compact 5″ display and MXG is a 7″ display, a better fit for wide cockpit installations.
MXG ECU Connections
MXS acquires data from the ECU of your vehicle.
The list of available ECU drivers, constantly updated and upgraded, is published here: it includes approximately 700 different ECUs, either Stock and Racing.
They are sorted by manufacturer/vehicle model: for each ECU you find the proprietary communication protocols, including the standard OBDII ones.
From a hardware point of view, MXG manages the following data lines:
MXS Analog Digital Inputs
MXS has eight analog inputs, recorded up to 1000 times per second each. You can connect and monitor all kinds of sensors, like:
- Ratiometric potentiometers
- Pressure sensors
- K-type thermocouple and many others, all your custom sensors included.
MXG also features six digital inputs:
- Four speed signals – MXG can receive the speed signal from the ECU, from the GPS and from the four wheel sensors.
- RPM – MXG can receive the RPM signal from the ECU or from a digital input connected to a square wave signal (8 to 50 V) or to a low voltage (from 150 to 400 V) of the coil.
- Lap signal – Lap and split times are sampled by the GPS (included in the kit) or via optical receiver/transmitter.
MXS GPS Module
The GPS05 Module (included in the kit) connected via CAN to the MXG makes lap time calculation and track position analysis very easy. Each MXG memory stores more than 200 world tracks start/finish line coordinates: as soon as MXG is switched on, the GPS05 Module will locate its position, identify track-line coordinates and start immediately sampling lap and split time.
If the track is not included in the database, it is always possible to add the start/finish line coordinates to the MXG via PC before going to the track, using the Race Studio 3 – Track Manager software.

MXS Second CAN
An innovative MXG feature is its CAN2 line, managing data coming from your additional modules (i.e. ABS, traction control, infrared temperature sensors and more…). This feature meets the requirements of a growing number of racers, as the use of additional modules is becoming quite common in a number of series.
MXS Internal Accelerometer and Gyro
The internal three-axial accelerometer and the gyroscope provide the MXG a very powerful array of information. These force and motion sensors enable you to quantify the dynamic characteristics of your vehicle. Measuring acceleration forces and gyro rates can assist in determining how to improve your vehicle performances.
MXS Math Channels
With MXG you immediately get Math Channels values. The dash logger can be configured to display those values (i.e. brake bias, calculated gear) in real time.
Extra Wide, High Contrast 7″ TFT display
The MXS display features a high contrast 7″ TFT display, fully configurable by a dedicated software.
An ambient light sensor keeps the backlight at optimum brightness levels.
Freely Configurable Pages
You can define all the custom pages you wish, choosing among a wide library of page styles, defining which data to be shown, their end of scale and measure units. Swapping between pages can be managed pushing one or two pushbuttons.
Eight configurable RGB alarm LEDs.
You choose the conditions, you choose the colors. Select a solid alarm or flashing one – and the flashing frequency, choose to have an accompanying text message, and set the alarm priorities.
Two Digital Outputs
MXS features two digital outputs.
Each of them can give an output of 1 amp at 12 volts: they can be configured in order to be turned on/off depending on the value of the analog or digital inputs. They permit to automatically run external systems, i.e. to switch on/off additional lights, to activate/de-activate a cooling fan or circulation pumps, etc. when a certain event happens.
Integrated Shift Light Array
Choose from a host of advanced multicoloured RGB shift light patterns that can be customized to your liking, and for each unique gear when required. Using the built-in CAN bus, you can add expansion modules to the MXG to increment the performance and the data acquired:
Expand the system according to your needs
Thanks to GPS05 Module (included in the kit) and its GPS Manager software, you can immediately get laptimes and all data needed for engine tuning as well as for improving driving technique
It permits to add 4 0-5Volt analog channels for pressure, temperature sensors and potentiometers. Two of these channels can be configured to receive digital inputs like wheel speed.
It adds 4 K thermocouples.
LCU-One Lambda Controller
Wide band Lambda controller LCU-One, with Bosch LSU 4.9 probe, providing all Air/Fuel data, lambda value and exhaust gas temperature, allows to perfectly tune the carburetion.
SmartyCam HD cameras
The on-board cameras that overlays on videos the data sampled by your logger.
Thanks to the SD Card, Memory Module can record all your data in a file that can be downloaded on your PC for post-analysis. Memory Module, with 16Gb capability, can be connected via CAN-Bus to MXL2 and to all AiM loggers.
Race Studio 3
Race Studio 3 is the heart of your MXL2, managing all your racing activities. The Race Studio 3 can create, modify, delete, import and export configurations with all channels, ECU drivers, Math channels, Display Pages, Digital outputs, Alarms, Shift Lights and all the expansions you need. You will also be able to manage the map of all your racing tracks and compare two laps watching the video recorded by SmartyCam HD cameras.
